The concept of the REAP: High School Strategy (REAP:HSS) is to provide rural high school students with the information, tools and role models they require to navigate their way towards becoming rural physicians. The goal is to inform students of the opportunities that exist in rural health care, and encourage them to pursue a medical profession. Through this we hope to ease the rural healthcare shortage in the future. The REAP:HSS involves the creation, refinement, and distribution of a multimedia presentation for participating rural physicians, residents, or medical students to present to rural high school students. The objective is to inform students of the opportunities that exist in rural healthcare, break down misconceptions and perceived barriers, and encourage them to pursue a career in the medical profession.
Dr. Goodlife
This 5 minute, visually stunning and engaging digital presentation is designed to provide a glimpse into the joys of both rural life and rural medicine. Produced by the young and highly acclaimed production team David Mossop and Malcolm Sangster of the Rocky Mountain Sherpas, this segment is part of a multimedia presentation currently being delivered to high school students across British Columbia through the REAP:HSS. Designed to ignite interest in rural medicine by showcasing some of what rural BC and rural medicine has to offer, Dr. Goodlife will hopefully plant a seed of inspiration in high school students, medical students, residents and doctors alike to consider a career in rural medicine.
