Port McNeill offers its residents a wide variety of shops and services, including two grocery stores, a small department store, banks, clothing stores, pharmacies, hardware stores, restaurants, a library and postal services. Legal, accounting, forest engineering and other services are provided by a variety of professionals who have established practices here.

Places of worship in the Port McNeill area serve the Baptist, Anglican/United, Full Gospel, Catholic, Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Baha'i, and Jehovah's Witnesses faiths.

There are two elementary schools and one high school in the Port McNeill area and some daycare services are available for young children. A local campus of North Island College provides the community with access to distance and scheduled academic, career and part-time vocational courses.

Community events/entertainment: 

Community events include craft fairs, an Easter Egg Hunt, Canada Day celebrations, and an annual Orca Festival in which the entire town gets together to enjoy friendship and fresh, barbequed salmon.
