The growing city of Merritt is located at the hub of the Coquihalla Highway system in southern British Columbia, within easy reach of major centres such as Vancouver and Kamloops. Merritt is the service centre for the Nicola Valley, with mining, forestry, agriculture and summer tourism forming the community's economic base. Mild winters and dry, sunny summers characterize the climate here supporting a variety of year round recreational activities including mountain biking, hiking, golfing, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. Known as the "Country Music Capital of Canada", Merritt attracts 100,000 visitors each year to Merritt Mountain Music Festival.
