The community of Fraser Lake is situated in the northern region of British Columbia, 162 km west of Prince George.  It marks the eastern edge of the Lakes District, an area dotted with lakes, rivers, mountain ranges and valleys.  The pioneer roots of the area's history date back to the fur trade.  Forestry and mining are the foundation of the local economy with tourism increasing in importance.  The geography of the area around Fraser Lake creates numerous opportunities for outdoor recreational pursuites including swimming, waterskiing, windsurfing, hiking, fishing, canoeing and cross-country skiing.

Fraser Lake experiences a moderate climate with a significant amount of snowfall during the winter months.  The average summer maximum temperature here is 21 degrees Celsuis, while the average winter maximum temperature is -5 degrees.
