The Cranbrook area was first inhabited by the Ktunaxa (pronounced "Too nah hah") native band who followed retreating glaciers into the region from the great lakes to the south. The railway played an important role in Cranbrook's early development, a heritage that is celebrated today in the Canadian Museum of Rail Travel.
Located in the southeast corner of BC, Cranbrook is the business capital of the East Kootenays and the largest city in the Rocky Mountain region. Nestled on a gentle plain with scenic mountain vistas in the distance, it is considered by many to be the ideal location to raise a family or retire.
