Burns Lake has a large number of shops and services for a community of its size, including a small enclosed shopping mall, two major grocery stores, a small department store, hardware stores, three banks with automated teller machines, clothing stores, pharmacies, numerous resetaurants, a library, a movie theatre and postal services. High speed Internet service is available.

Community events/entertainment: 

There is an active Artists' Guild in Burns Lake representing artists involved in painting, pottery and woodcarving. There is also a theatre facility here, which hosts community productions.

The local Lakes District Museum, one of the premier small-town museums in British Columbia, profiles the area's history.

Every April, Burns Lake hosts and the Lakes District Festival of the Performing Arts, one of the largets festivals of its kind in the North.
