Bella Coola is a major supply area for delivery of goods and services to the Central Coast. It has a variety of general stores, clothing and specialty stores, art and gift shops, restaurants, a library, a pharmacy, a credit union, travel, financial and legal services.
Places of worship in the community serve the United, Seventh Day Adventist, Catholic and Pentecostal faiths.
Bella Coola has one elementary school (kindergarten to grade 3), a Seventh Day Adventist school (preschool to grade 12) and a First Nations school (kindergarten to grade 12). The nearby community of Hagensborg (15 minutes east) has one intermediate school (grades 4-7) and one secondary school (grades 8-12). North Island College and Nuxalk College offer adult education and a range of other programs. The Nuxalk Nation operates a daycare.
Community events/entertainment:
The Bella Coola Rodeo, one of the largest amateur rodeos in Western Canada, takes place annually on the Canada Day weekend. The Bella Coola Valley Fall Fair is a down-home event reminiscent of old country fairs with games and a train ride for children along with games for the young at heart. Activities include horseshoes, ring toss, bingo, along with logger sports.
